Terms of Use
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using KidsCode (kidscode.ca) you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you are creating or managing an account for a child under 18, you (the parent or guardian) are agreeing to these Terms on their behalf and are responsible for their use of the platform.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the platform.
2. Who May Use KidsCode
- Students (ages 8–14): A parent or guardian must create and manage their account.
- Parents and guardians: Must be 18 or older. Responsible for their child's account and activity on the platform.
- Independent learners (age 13+): May create their own account directly.
3. Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials confidential
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Ensuring that student accounts you manage are used appropriately
- Notifying us if you become aware of unauthorised access to your account
Parent and guardian accounts are responsible for the conduct of any linked student accounts.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Share account credentials with others
- Attempt to access, view, or modify another user's account or data
- Submit harmful, offensive, threatening, or illegal content through any part of the platform
- Use the platform or its AI tutor to generate content that is hateful, adult, or unrelated to learning
- Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or exploit the platform, its API, or its content
- Interfere with the platform's normal operation
5. AI Tutor
The Get a Hint feature sends your current lesson code and question to OpenAI's API to generate an educational hint. By using this feature:
- You acknowledge that your code and question text will be transmitted to OpenAI for processing
- You understand that AI-generated hints are for educational guidance only and may occasionally be imperfect
- You agree not to attempt to use the hint feature to generate content unrelated to the lesson

6. Intellectual Property
The KidsCode platform, its lesson content, circuit diagrams, graphics, and instructional materials are owned by KidsCode (kidscode.ca). You may not copy, reproduce, republish, or redistribute any lesson content without written permission.
The code you write in the block builder is yours. We do not claim ownership of student-created work.
7. Platform Availability
We aim to keep KidsCode available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance, updates, or changes to the platform at any time. We are not liable for disruptions to your access.
8. Limitation of Liability
KidsCode is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by Ontario law, KidsCode (kidscode.ca) is not liable for:
- Loss of data — we recommend keeping copies of important code you create
- Service interruptions or downtime
- Errors in AI-generated hints
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
